Norfork Lake

Norfork Lake is a reservoir in the Ozarks of northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. The lake is impounded by the Norfork Dam on the North Fork River. It is one of the two lakes in the White River system, along with Bull Shoals Lake, that are impounded by dams built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Norfork Lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and swimming. The lake is home to a variety of fish species, including bass, crappie, catfish, and trout. The Norfork National Fish Hatchery, located on the lake, is the largest trout hatchery in the United States.

Norfork Lake was created in 1944 with the completion of the Norfork Dam. The dam was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Missouri River Basin Project. The purpose of the project was to control flooding and provide hydroelectric power. The lake has a surface area of 22,000 acres and a shoreline of 540 miles. The average depth of the lake is 60 feet, with a maximum depth of 120 feet.
